Now in its fourth year, Hull Comedy Festival will be opened by Geordie surrealist Ross Noble at Hull City Hall on Thursday 21st October. Noble, who voted was 11th Greatest Stand-up Comedian of all time in a recent Channel 4 poll, brings his tour to Hull for the first time since coming to prominence with a Perrier nomination in 1999.

Another Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee appearing at the festival on Sunday 24th October is comedian and TV presenter Russell Kane.

His “Smokescreens and Castles” show will launch the iScream; a new initiative for the festival. The iScream will come to Hull when the comedy festival takes over the Albemarle Music Centre for one week to create a home for workshops, exhibitions and shows during the first week of the festival.

Festival Director, John Gilbert said: “These announcements get the festival off to a flyer. I’m genuinely excited that there is much more to come and look forward to being able to shout about a few more things in the next couple of months.

We’ve been trying to book Ross Noble in for the festival since we started and finally we’ve got him. He has a massive cult following and we expect tickets to sell out within a week of going on sale.”

When talking about the introduction a home for festival, Mr Gilbert said: “The iScream is our big and shiny new thing for this year. We wanted to create an environment that we could control and where acts and artists could have some more creative expression in the name of comedy. The Albemarle is a cracking venue and the main auditorium can lend itself very well to live comedy. As the first week of the festival always falls in half-term it worked out really well for us hire the place and are working with performers, promoters and partners to get some special things going on.

Russell Kane is a great act to open this up for us. He was the first comedian ever to perform at the Albemarle and its fitting that he is returning to kick start the iScream.”

The iScream is being programmed and managed by comedy promoter and performer Jon Reed, who has recently joined the Hull Comedy Festival management team

The festival is organised by Hull-based marketing team eskimosoup, and is run in partnership with Hull BID, St Stephen’s, KCFM and Hull Colour Pages.
