Something funny is in the air as Hull’s third comedy festival rolls into tomorrow with Alistair McGowan, Colin Murray, Brendon Burns, and Charlie Chuck amongst the performers at a bustling opening weekend. Hull Comedy Festival will run for 15 days and nights during which over 100 performers will play to audiences at 20 venues. Interest in the festival has surpassed previous years with the festival attracting the attention of the national media. A team from BBC 2 and 6 Music will be recording footage at the Burlesque Trifle at the Ringside, Beverley Road, on Saturday evening. John Gilbert, Festival Director said: "After a year’s worth of planning, we are now at the most exciting and nerve-racking stage of festival. Despite the postal strikes we are delighted to say that Hull Comedy Festival will be arriving on time and to a first class standard. Was that too cheesy?" This year the festival boasts an impressive line-up including; Al Murray the Pub Landlord, US-comedian Rich Hall, Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner Daniel Kitson, the Porridge stage show and international TV-star Pam Ann. Other high profile shows include, Keith Chegwin hosting a comedy charity dinner, the Art of Comedy workshops, the Best of Hull Comedy, and the Hull Comedy Awards which will close the festival at the Royal Hotel on Saturday 7th November.
Hull Comedy Festival is organised by eskimosoup and is delivered in partnership by Hull Business Improvement District, Hull Colour Pages, KCFM 99.8 and St Stephen's, with the support of many local organisations, venues and promoters.
